Bookmarks are excellent tools for saving time and organizing information found on the World Wide Web. These directions are for Netscape 2.0. The following topics are covered here:
CREATING BOOKMARKS
- At the Bookmarks menu, select Add Bookmark. To go to that site, select the name of the site from the Bookmarks menu.
- Bookmarks can also be created when not connected to the WWW.
- From the Window menu, select Bookmarks.
- From the Item menu, select Insert Bookmark.
- When the New Bookmark window appears, type the URL of the site to be book-marked. Annotations can also be added for future reference.
ORGANIZING BOOKMARKS
Bookmarks can be organized into folders, edited, deleted, sorted, saved to disk, imported from disks, etc.
To organize and manage bookmarks, always begin at the Window menu by selecting Bookmarks. Once selected, menu items change and selections can be made from the File, Edit, Bookmarks, Item, and Window.
- From the Window menu, select Bookmarks.
- A new menu will appear. From the Item menu, select Insert Folder and the New Folder window will appear. Type in the name of the new folder or leave it untitled and name it later. The new folder will appear in the list of bookmarks.
- Several folders can be created and bookmarks can be placed in the appropriate folders by dragging and dropping the icons into the folder.
- To separate folders visually, from the Item menu, select Insert Separator, and lines will be placed between folders. These lines can be deleted as described below.
SAVING BOOKMARKS
Bookmarks which are created as described above are always saved in the Netscape folder and available for use until deleted. Bookmarks can also be saved to disk. An easy method for doing so:
- From the Window menu, select Bookmarks.
- Once the bookmarks file is open, from the File menu, select Save Bookmark File As...
- A dialog box will appear. Choose where the bookmarks are to be saved and then name the file. Bookmarks can be saved to a folder on the desktop and then dragged to a floppy disk or they can be saved directly to a floppy disk.
DELETING BOOKMARKS
- From the Window menu, select Bookmarks.
- Highlight the bookmark(s) to be deleted.
- From the Edit menu, select Delete Bookmark. Designated bookmark will be deleted. Note: Bookmarks, Folders, and Separators are all deleted in the same way.
IMPORTING BOOKMARKS
Bookmarks can be imported from any floppy disk by:
- From the Window menu, select Bookmarks.
- From the File menu, select Import Bookmarks.
- Highlight the Bookmark or folder of bookmarks to be imported.
- Click Open -- at the same time the bookmark opens, it will import to Netscape and appear in the Bookmark menu.
PRINTING BOOKMARKS
- Open the Netscape Browser (no need to be online). From the Window menu, select Bookmarks.
- From the File menu, select Save Bookmark File as... At the Open window, name a folder and name and save the bookmark file in the folder. Be sure to save the folder in an easy to find location.
Suggestion: Save in the Netscape folder for ease of locating.
- Close your bookmarks and then from the File menu, select Open File.
- Hightlight the file/folder which contains your bookmarks and then from File menu, select Page Setup and select your choice of options.
- From the File menu, select Print and you will print your bookmarks with annotations if you have annotated them..
