Professionalization:
As professionals, surgeons have two conflicting aims: to gain fame and fortune from their work, but also to keep incompetent and unethical "quacks" from getting rich off unsuspecting patients. How have these aims shaped the way various breast treatments have been used, and the way women patients are treated?

Medicalization (seeing the body in terms of physical or mental disease/deformity):
How has the medicalization of breasts (whether large or small) affected the way we look at women's bodies? What are the advantages and disadvantages for women (including women with breast cancer, and women who choose not to have surgery)?

Consumerism and commodification (turning an object or service into something that can be bought and sold):
Are breasts a commodity in today's society? Is this true of male body parts as well? How does this affect the way we see ourselves?

Individual vs. social solutions to social problems:
Do breast implants empower women by giving them more choices and more control over their bodies and appearance, or do they just put more pressure on women to live up to unrealistic standards of beauty? Are there other solutions to the problems some of these women face?
