In order to run Diversity Connections, you'll need to get two programs off the Internet. These programs are free and will make your machine a more powerful vehicle by which to travel the World Wide Web. These are one-time only steps -- once you do them, you will not have to repeat them. The first program you need is Netscape Navigator 2.O or higher, or a compatible browser. In order to get this, simply click on the Netscape Now! button and follow the instructions to download.
The second program you need is Macromedia's Shockwave for Authorware plug-in. To download the Shockwave installer, all you need to do is click the Get Shockwave button and follow the instructions.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Make certain you are downloading the "Shockwave for Authorware" plug-in appropriate to your machine before hitting "Get Shockwave." AFTER downloading Shockwave from the Macromedia site, you must then install it into your plug-ins folder. This is a separate step. Once it has completed installing Shockwave on your computer, you may view Diversity Connections.
Once you have these two programs, there's only one more step you need to take. Once you're in Netscape, look at the very top menu bar on your screen. Click on Options in that menu bar and under "Options," select "Network Preferences..." You will see a dialogue box. In it -- and we cannot state specifically how because it will vary by platform and specific program -- increase your Cache Size to 10 MB or 10,000 K. This will greatly increase the speed at which you will be able to move from screen to screen in Diversity Connections. We also strongly recommend that you connect directly to our website via your college's or university's Internet access. Diversity Connections will run over a modem, but it will run slowly because of its complex and colorful graphics.
