TEXAS SNOW POEMS

The following are poems written by 12 and 13 year old students at Hubbard Middle School in Tyler, Texas, in Ms. Haley's seventh grade English class.

Snow

by Brandi Henderson, 7th grade

Dreaming of snow

is wonderful you know.

It coats the ground

and makes a beautiful sound.

Snow is relaxing and peaceful

and all around

the flakes of snow are numbing and cold.

I hope whien I get old,

I can still play in the snow.

The Silence of Snow and Winter

by Serena Chou, 7th grade

What is a silence

everyone feels

To which lions themselves

may be compelled to kneel?

This is a silence

felt only in snow

It is the one silence

that may strike the depth of your soul.

The silence of winter

it is called

by many who have felt it

while gazing on a landscape of winter chill

and snow.

Winter

by Jordan Crockett, 7th grade

A white winter blanket

covering the ground,

sleigh tracks racing all

over town.

Jack Frost falling from why up high,

Snowflakes fluttering out of the sky.

Children tossing snow balls such as a sport,

on a shimmering white blanket as their court.

The beauty of snow is something everyone should know,

To see and to feel,

Oh, how cold!

Snowy Winter Night

by Noel Quinata, seventh grade

I was lost among the blizzard on this snowy winter night.

How am I supposed to find my house when everything is a blur of white?

I am feeling very cold, the weather is beating me down.

Now I am losing consciousness as I'm falling to the ground.

I awake to find myself in some stranger's house.

Now it's all coming clear.

I'm must have gone unconscious.

He must have found me and brought me here.

I'm feeling very weak, the snow tired me out.

He says the snow is thick.

That is why I'm sick.

I'm laying in this bed on a snowy, winter night.

Will I live through this winter night?

I really do not think so, but hey, I just might.

But now I'm feeling weaker.

I am going towards a light.

It's time for me to go now.

Farewell on this snowy winter night.

Snow

by Emily Becker, seventh grade

All is cold, all is white

The snow falls gently on

this dark night.

The stars shine brightly

against the coal black sky

God created the snow,

I wonder why.

Maybe to see the children playing

their hearts so pure,

but it cannot be for the homeless

for the coldness they must endure.

Maybe there's no reason

Maybe the Father has none,

but whatever the cause

it is already done.

So let the snow fall

Why should I care?

It doesn't matter to me

as long as it's there.
