Snowy Day In Florida

by Kindergarteners in Linda Dombchik's class, Maitland, Florida
Since we do not have any snow in FL and many of our children have never
built a snowman, we make one from cotton balls. They are given three circles
in 3 sizes and are asked to estimate how many cotton balls it will take to
cover the circles. They then glue on the cotton balls and count them. We
compare the estimate to the actual count. Then the snowman is pasted onto a
piece of construction paper and given button eyes, stick arms, a carrot nose
etc. When he is complete we give him a name and then write and illustrate a
circle story.
The children form a circle and the first person starts the
story, then the 2nd child tells what happens next and so on, the last person
ends the story. We could write and illustrate the story in KidPix or Kid
Works Delux.
