MDK-12:

The Maryland K-12 Community

color bar

This Web site was set up in the early 1990's to address the needs and interests of the "Maryland K-12 Community" -- teachers, media specialists, school administrators, and education agency personnel who were using the Internet access accounts provided by the Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Maryland as part of its "MDEDU" program.

Since that time, the world of K-12 technology has expanded so vastly, and educator access to other sources of Internet access has become so nearly universal, that the concept of the site has been pared down to material specific to Maryland and use of the MDEDU accounts.

NO NEW ACCOUNTS -- As of August 19, 2002, no new MDEDU accounts are being issued. The low level of demand for the accounts in the preceding year indicated that this part of the MDK-12 program had served its purpose and could be terminated. Existing accounts remain unaffected, though they are subject to the usual policy of termination if there is no evidence of use (specifically: telnet access) for six consecutive months.
