Safe Schools For Gay and Lesbian Students Programs and Grants Management Coordinator Educational Improvement Service Group Duties

One full-time 03 consultant professional position working in the Learning Support Services Cluster to provide leadership, training and technical assistance to school districts and other LSS staff on implementation of the Safe Schools Project. Activities include:

* Assist in the development of requests for proposals and the management and administration of contracts

* Assist schools in creating school-based support groups for gay, lesbian, bisexual and heterosexual students

* Provide technical assistance to contractors conducting workshops for students and faculty

* Conduct safe schools trainings for school faculty and administrators

* Coordinate GSA Mentor Program

* Coordinate Mini - grants program

* Provide technincal assistance regarding grant application process

* Design programs to meet the needs of underserved students: lesbian,bilingual, urban and rural, language minority, and special needs

* Be a diversity specialist in the program, evaluating the accessibility of the program to diverse populations of gay and lesbian students

* Assume liason responsibilities as assigned Implement provisions of the Education Reform Act by:

* Participating in Department-sponsored or other activities in order monitor implementation of the Education Reform Act of 1993.

* Participating in Education Reform task force or work groups in order to facilitate the effective implementation of the Act. Preferred Qualification

* A Master's Degree or experience in related field

* Experience with violence prevention programs

* Familiarity with program evaluation methods and models.

* Experience in program design and development to meet the needs of underserved populations

* Demonstrate ability to conduct training and technical assistance activities

* Demonstrated familiarity with equal education opportunity laws.* Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team

* Strong verbal and written communication skills

* Strong skills in program development and coordination

* Grants management skills
Compensation

Not to exceed $24.40 per hour with no benefits. The consultant is paid through a personal services contract with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
