No Doves

An Original Poem by Valerie Jean
(301) 405-9232

In Spanish
there is
no word
for dove.
The birds

who share
this park
are palomas,
some negras -
some marronas -

one blanca ,
all pigeons
whose spectacle
of wings
mix with

the sky
and branches
they fly
between,
Owning this

spectacular
view of
ths park,
where the
river rushes

to edge
on furious
light, criss-
crossing over
small waves,

the palomas
play after
their fashion.
Among them,
the one

white bird
struts, no
special symbol
of sacred
peace, but

synchronized
in step with
the brazen
rhythms of
them all.
