The African American Student Network
The net is sponsored by the University of Houston's African American Studies
Program(AAS). It is one of the many programs and services offered by our AAS
Program here at the University. The AAS progaram strives to meet the goals of
their African American Students in every way possible, be it socially,
academically, or financially. The AAS program offers a minor to all students
interested in learning more about the contributions made by African Americans
(AA) to the United States and other western civilizations. We offer a variety
of student discipline groups, such as the African American Pre-Health Society,
African American Minors' Association, and the AA Honor's Association. The
program offers scholarships & grants for undergraduate students and fellowships
for graduate students. As you can see, our program is very diverse in its goals
and its interest, and so it is with our electronic network.
Now, for a little info on the network, it was definitely designed with you and
your needs at heart. The main goal of the network is to bring together black
faculty, staff, students, etc., in a forum which encourages dialogue beneficial
to the black student. We are fully aware of some of the obstacles and challenges
that this population faces at institutions of higher learning.
So, go ahead and get involved in the discussions and if you don't like the
topics, well, by all means introduce some new ones. Many of the subscribers
have been on AASNET-L since the establishment of the list. We hope that you
will enjoy the network so much that you'll stick around for awhile too.
