     	The Washingtonia Division houses a large collection on the social, 
     economic, and political history of the District, including maps, local
     daily newspapers, District government documents (DC Code and Municipal
     Regulations, City Directories, copies of federal census records relating
     to the District of Columbia), and more than 5,000 books. An extensive
     verticle file contains news clippings, pamphlets and other materials;
     special collections include the Washington Star photo and clipping morgue
     with over one million photographic images and thirteen million clippings;
     the DC Historical Image Collection, composed of photos, drawings, and
     other materials from late 18th to early 20th centuries; the Oral History
     Center, with copies of interviews with long-time DC residents, and 
     information on conducting an oral history program. People and    	
     organizations represented include Julius Hobson, the DC Chapter of the
     League of Women Voters, the National Ballet, and the DC Chapter of the 
     Special Libraries Association.
