Procedures And Guidelines For Conducting Faculty And Staff Searches At UMCP

CHAPTER 7

SEARCH AND SELECTION PROCEDURES FOR TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES
(INCLUDING CONTRACT EMPLOYEES)

The campus goal of having a diverse workforce, including temporary employees, makes it necessary for units to demonstrate efforts to meet this goal. The following procedure is designed to assist the unit and the Equity Administrator in developing and mon itoring a process which will result in increased appointments of minority and female candidates:

  1. No later than July 1 of each year, each unit will submit to the appropriate Equity Administrator a Search and Selection Plan for Temporary Appointments. A summary list of temporary appointments made during the previous academic year must also be prov ided. The summary should list each appointment by title and position and should include the race and gender of each appointee. (See Appendix D for Search and Selection Plan form and Unit Summary form.)

  2. The approved plan must be forwarded to the President’s office for assignment of a temporary search I.D. number. These numbers will be used for the electronic academic appointment process.

  3. Following the approval of the annual plan, the unit may use this approved plan to conduct all searches for temporary appointments for the year.

  4. Searches for contract employees, however, must advertise the position for a minimum of one week.
