Diversity Accountability and Implementation Plans at UMCP
The UMCP Diversity Accountability and Implementation Plan ("DAIP") is the comprehensive mechanism by which the various units of the campus will determine how best they can help the campus attain its primary diversity goals, and then monitor them for effectiveness. Under the DAIP, individual campus units will assume primary responsibility for achieving the campus' diversity goals, with central campus offices responsible only for helping to establish the campus-wide goals, holding units accountable for meeting their DAIP responsibilities and, to the extent possible, providing individual units with technical and extent possible, providing individual units with technical and financial assistance. Underlying the DAIP is the belief that individual campus units can most readily discern their most promising diversity opportunities and determine how best harness the considerable creative energies within their units to realize those opportunities. The DAIP will work each fiscal year as follows. By June 1, each Vice President will submit a report evaluating the success of the diversity efforts his/her division made during the outgoing fiscal year and describing the division's diversity plans for the following fiscal year. Attached to the report will be an Activity Form for each activity units within the division plan to conduct to achieve their goals. On this form, divisions will describe not only the activities themselves, but the methods the units and division will use to monitor and evaluate the diversity efforts within the division. Division plans will essentially consist of the compilation of similar plans drawn up by the individual units within the division and approved by the division s management (in Academic Affairs, for example, by the deans and then the Provost). Though each division will be free to adopt its own specific internal procedures and deadlines, each individual unit should be given considerable latitude to determine its own diversity activities and should develop its plans with the broad participation of all members of the unit. |
