  1. Introduction:
This class is a CORE COURSE. It is meant to fulfill two of the main aims of the CORE Liberal Arts and Sciences Studies Program. One of those aims is to introduce you to a broadrange of learning during your first two years of study at College Park. Through studying different kinds of knowledge as sought by many different disciplines you will explore the nature of scholarship itself in the arts and humanities, in mathematics and in the sciences.

Another of those aims is to help you to explore the broad range of diversity present in cultures other than your own. As we explore the world from the perspective of culture the diversity of the solutions humanity has devised in order to survive on - and to enjoy - the earth will become clearer.

  2. Requirements:
It is expected that students will actively engage in the learning process in this course through participation in class discussions and attendance at the discussion group meetings. Attendance at the discussion group sessions and fulfillment of all discussion group quizzes and projects is mandatory as is taking of both the class midterm and final. Failure to take the midterm and final, any of the discussion group quizzes or turn in any of the discussion group projects without a proper excuse will result in your failing the course s a whole. Anyone who misses fulfulling any class requirement for a legitimate reason will be given a chance to make it up and whatever help they may need doing so.
