Early American Lesbian Narrative (12/15/02; 9/24/03-9/27/03)

Papers sought for a proposed panel on Early American Lesbian Narrative for the Society for the Study of American Women Writers(SSAWW)Second International Conference to be held in Fort Worth, Texas, September 24-27, 2003.

Defining "early lesbian narrative" will be a central concern of the panel. All theoretical approaches are welcome, as are papers on little known writers or texts (both fiction and non-fiction). Papers on texts written by American women before 1914 are preferred, but comparative studies between pre- and post- WWI narratives will be considered. I am particularly interested in papers re-interrogating the "romantic friendship" thesis.

Please send proposals by 12/15 to Kris Comment at (no attachments, please), or:
