Providing Campus-wide Access
Currently the approximately 8000 images in Caprina™ reside on a single Novell server (this is clearly a
temporary expedient). The access software is also stored on this server. All that must be loaded on (or
available to) a user's computer including those in computer labs is one small program, the application
launcher, which: 1) connects to the remote image server, 2) executes the desired program from the image
server, and 3) automatically disconnects from the server when program execution is terminated in any
way. This program is run by clicking on a Windows icon. Since all of the complex software exists as a
single copy on the server, it is very easy to maintain.
