Community Building and Self-Enrichment for Non-Exempt Employees

NEW program! Come join Dr. Cordell Black, Associate Vice Provost for Equity & Diversity, March 10, 2004: 3-4.30pm, Nyumburu Cultural Center as he shares his experiences in his long time career at UMD!

Hello, my name is Angie Bass...

I am the Program Coordinator for the Office of Human Relations Programs. I would like to speak to you about my office and its mission to reach out to the Universityıs non-exempt staff. My goals are to develop programs that will improve the morale of, provide meaningful information to, and enhance the skills of our Non-Exempt Staff community.

It is my hope that these programs will become a forum in which we may learn new things through dialogue, as well as an opportunity for us to express our views and concerns about the issues affecting us as individuals, in our jobs on campus, and in our lives outside of work.

We are faced with challenging times, globally and locally. In particular, the current budget constraints now facing the University can make us feel pushed to our limits. By coming together to discuss the pressures these circumstances bring to bear on us, we can share each other's burden, build a supportive community, and develop strategies for success in the face of adversity. Toward this end, I would like to invite you to consider joining me for a Non-Exempt Staff Story Circle and/or in organizing a Non-Exempt Staff Intergroup Dialogue with your co-workers. Story Circles meet on an on-going basis, for 1 hour, once a month (typically around lunchtime). Intergroup Dialogues meet for 2 hours, once a week, for 6 weeks at a time convenient for your unit or department.
