Appointment Action

 

 

 

When to Use

Contract to Hourly

Use for a contingent 2 or faculty contractual employee who is appointed to an hourly Contingent 1 or faculty hourly appointment.

Contract to Regular

Use for a contingent 2 or faculty contractual employee who is appointed to a regular nonexempt , exempt, or faculty non-tenured continuing  appointment or converted to regular within the same dept or in another dept.

Demotion

 

Use when a regular employee is appointed to a position at a lower grade for Nonexempt employees or lower target market pay range and pay band for Exempt employees and based on significant and substantial changes of the primary duties of the position either within or outside of the same unit.

Hourly to Contract

Use when an hourly employee is appointed to a contingent 2 or faculty contractual appointment

Hourly to Regular

Use when an hourly employee who is appointed to a regular exempt , nonexempt , or faculty non-tenured continuing  appointment

Lateral

Use when a regular employee who is appointed to another position within the same grade for Nonexempt employees or the same target market  pay range and pay band for Exempt employees either within or outside of the same unit.

 

 

New Appointment

Use this action when an employee changes from a paid to a non-paid apt.

Nonexempt Title Regrade

Use this action only when USM determines that the grade of a Nonexempt Title should be changed and you have been in contact with UHR.

Promotion

Use when a Faculty member is promoted, within rank, based on meritorious performance, institutional needs and professional service.

Promotion with Search

(competitive)

 

Use when a regular non-faculty employee is appointed to a higher-level position within or outside of the same unit and as a result of a competitive search.

 

 

Promotion Without Search

Use when a regular employee (below Director Level)  is appointed to a higher level position within the same department without a search.

 

 

 

Reappointment/

Renewal

Use when a current employee whose contract is renewed or who is reappointed when their current non-permanent appointment ends.  Must be the same position in the same unit, based on performance, institutional needs, and available funding, with no break in service.

Reassignment

Use when a non-faculty employee is moved to a similar or comparable position within the same unit or division or within the same span of managerial control.

Reclass

Use for a non-faculty reclassification which is based upon significant and substantial changes to the primary duties of a position, which then raises the level of the position.

Reemployment

 

Use when a former employee returns to USM service after a break in service as follows:

Exempt – more than 3 years

Nonexempt – more than 3 years

Contingents – any break in service

Faculty – any break in service

Regular to Contract

Use when a Regular employee is appointed to another position that is Contingent 2 or faculty contractual.

 

Re-Instate (break of 3 years or less)

Use when a former regular nonexempt or exempt employee returns to a regular position after a break in service from the USM and/or State as follows:

Exempt – 3 years or less

Nonexempt -3 years or less

 

Terminal Year

Use when a tenure track faculty member was not granted tenure via the APT process and is being reappointed to a non-tenured faculty position for one year.

Title Change

Use when a non-tenured, non-term, or contractual faculty employee requires a title change because a more appropriate title describes the primary duties of the position. 

Unit Change

Use when an appointee changes to a different unit for reorganization purposes ONLY.
